It was September. A rainy afternoon when I arrived at his studio in East London. He offered me a banana smoothie - which I politely refused for reasons that now seem extravagant - and we talked about Neil Young and Mazzy Star and other musicians we admired. Emmet Green took this picture of me with one of his cumbersome film cameras. I like it not only because it reminds me of my grandmother in one of those framed portraits she kept on her nightstand, but because it captures, with exquisite economy, the essence of my everyday struggle.

When Iā€™m not staring into space, trying to make sense of life languid-eyed, I write. Sometimes I paint. I am the author of Sea Silk, a collection of poetry. My paintings have featured in galleries and exhibitions in London, Miami, Florence, and Paris. I was born in Florence, Italy. Now I live in London, England.
